Flight Arrivals at Florence Airport

The city of Florence is only 4 km distance from Florence Airport, the gateway to Italy's beautiful Tuscany region. Getting to the city is easy - there are several public transport options available at Florence Airport. Many car rental companies are also stationed within the airport compound, and private taxi companies offer their services just outside the terminal too.

Also known as Amerigo Vespucci Airport, Florence's airport lies to the north-west of the city, between the Florence North exit from the motorway and the city's industrial area.

If you happen to be parted from your luggage upon arrival at Florence Airport, there is a Lost & Found office in the baggage reclaim area, where you can start an official search for your lost items. This office is open from 8.00 hours to 9.00 hours, and again from 15.00 hours to 16.00 hours.

Passengers arriving at the terminal will find an information desk in the arrivals area. The information stand is open from Mondays to Saturdays from 9.00 hours to 19.00 hours, and from 9.00 hours to 14.00 hours on Sundays and public holidays. Here travelers will find a wide range of help, from assistance with their search for tourist accommodation to maps of Florence, how to get to tourist attractions or which cultural events to look forward to.

Situated on the ground floor in the Commercial Hall, the arrivals area restaurants and cafes offer snacks, refreshments and typical Italian fare to travelers. The ground floor area also boasts several shops, where travelers can find Tuscan brands of fashion, food and a bookstore also selling newspapers and magazines. A Mini Mall located on the first floor offers even more retail outlets and a currency exchange desk ensures that shoppers are never short of the correct currency to make their purchases.

Getting to the City of Florence

A taxi rank is located just outside the terminal, close to the car park. A typical taxi journey costs between 22.00 and 25.00 euros into central Florence.

Various chauffeur-driven limousine operators provide Meet & Greet services at Florence Airport too. Their door-to-door transfers cost around 45.00 to 50.00 euros for up to three passengers travelling with three pieces of luggage to central Florence's train station for example. The trip takes ca. 16 minutes. Pre-booked Meet & Greet typically include up to 90 minutes waiting time.

Car rental companies have their own designated area within the airport compound. A free shuttle takes passengers with a car hire reservation to the car rental office area, called Palagio degli Spini. The shuttle bus stop is located inside the short-term car park P1, just outside the terminal. The shuttle runs every 20 minutes to the car rental offices and back. Car hire companies operating out of Florence Airport include Auto Europa, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Enterprise, Hertz, Locauto, Maggiore, Sixt, Sicily by Car and Win Rent, among many others. Most of the car rental offices open from 8.00 hours to 23.00 hours, seven days a week.

A bus service, the Bus Italia operated Volainbus shuttle, runs every 30 minutes between Florence Airport and the city, where the shuttle stops at the Bus Italia bus station, near Florence SMN Railway Station. The average journey takes just 20 minutes. The bus station is located in Via Santa Caterina da Siena. A one-way ticket costs 6.00 euros per person, 10.00 euros for a round trip. Children under the age of three travel for free.

Since February 2019 a tram service also links Florence Airport with the city. A single ticket, valid for 90 minutes, costs just 1.50 euros. The trip takes 20 minutes and the service runs every 30 minutes. The tram stop is just outside the terminal, about a 2 minute walk, and in Florence the tram stops at Piazza dell'Unita Italiana, which is just over a 1 km walk from the city center.
